“22nd DigiCon6 ASIA Awards – Hong Kong” Presentation Ceremony

Acknowledgement of Hong Kong’s Regional Winners with Screening of Awarded Works Recognition of HK Contestants who also Won and awardees of the DigiCon6 ASIA Grand Prize & Silver Award

(Hong Kong.16th April 2021, Friday) The Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association (HKDEA) has been co-organising Hong Kong’s regional contest of the “DigiCon6 ASIA Awards” (“DigiCon6 ASIA Awards – Hong Kong”) with Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, Inc. (? – “Tokyo Broadcasting System Holdings, Inc.”?) (TBS) for years, with a view to identifying and supporting potential creative talent in Hong Kong by promoting and giving recognition to their creative digital contents. Sponsored by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR Government), HKDEA organised the Awards Presentation Ceremony of the “22nd DigiCon6 ASIA Awards - Hong Kong” on 16th April 2021 (Friday) in Premiere Elements, to give recognition to the excellent digital content created by Hong Kong talent. 

HKDEA was honoured to have Dr. Bernard CHAN, JP, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government to be the Guest of Honour to present the Regional Gold Award. Mr. Gabriel PANG, Chairman of HKDEA, Ms. Jersey YUEN, Assistant Head of CreateHK, Mr. Adam WONG Sau Ping, Film Director and Mr. Lo Che Ying, Animation Veteran, also joined the ceremony. On the same occasion, Mr. Raman HUI, “the Father of Sherk”, delivered a video message to encourage Hong Kong animators. 

As Asia's foremost animation short film competition, the “DigiCon6 ASIA Awards” is a prestigious annual digital content competition participated by various Asian regions. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic started since last year, the 22nd edition of the “DigiCon6 ASIA Awards” still attracted more than 1,200 applications, which signified its popularity and importance within the industry in Asia. In this edition, 16 Asian countries/regions participated and the entries of each first competed for their own Regional Gold Award, Silver Awards and Next Generation Awards. The Regional Gold Award Winners of all participating countries/regions were then nominated to further compete for the highest awards in the Grand Final, in which Hong Kong contestants won the Gold Award - Grand Prize and a Silver Award again. This is two years in a row for Hong Kong to win the Grand Prize since the last edition.

The “DigiCon6 ASIA Awards” has a strong participation of 16 Asian countries/ regions in this edition, namely Cambodia, the Mainland, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and the first-time participants, Laos and Mongolia. The “22nd DigiCon6 ASIA Awards” Presentation Ceremony was successfully held in Tokyo, Japan through a live webcast in November last year.

Hong Kong representative, “Penguin Lab” with its “Dragon's Delusion – Preface” first won the “22nd DigiCon6 ASIA Awards – Hong Kong” Gold Award, and then the “22nd DigiCon6 ASIA Awards” Gold Award – Grand Prize in Tokyo’s Awards Presentation Ceremony last year. Another Hong Kong contestant, Intoxic Studio Limited’s “Mountain And Seas - Village of Muds”, also received the Silver – Asian Perspective Award in the Grand Final, in addition to the “DigiCon6 ASIA Awards – Hong Kong” Silver Award.

The remaining Hong Kong Silver Award goes to Pop Culture Studies & Artistry Discovery Lab Limited and its " Afternoon Tea Symphony". Other awards presented at Hong Kong’s Award Presentation Ceremony were a Next-Generation Award and nine Digital Creativity Awards.

Speaking at the Award Presentation Ceremony, Dr. Bernard CHAN JP, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government congratulated HKDEA and TBS for successfully co-organising the "22nd DigiCon6 ASIA Awards – Hong Kong” and the related activities in Hong Kong. He also congratulated all Hong Kong winners.

To give Hong Kong digital content producers more chances to exchange ideas with their counterparts from other countries and regions, a series of events were held in Hong Kong on 15th April 2021, in addition to the Award Presentation Ceremony. They were: the “Asian Master Summit” with three Asian masters namely Mr. LIM Kah Wai, film director from Malaysia, Mr. Fish WANG, awardee of the Best Animated Short Film of the Golden Horse Awards, and Mr. KONG Kee, film director of “Dragon’s Delusion”, as speakers to share their creative experiences; and a screening session which showcased the works of the Gold Award winners of Hong Kong and other regional contests, followed by an experience sharing by the winners.
